It’s happening! Construction for The Gaslight District underway in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE | August 6, 2019 - HIP Developments is thrilled to announce that construction for the long awaited Gaslight District is underway! Although sitework and work on the commercial spaces in the historical buildings have in progress for months, the residential towers are now officially underway. Situated in the historic downtown Galt area of Cambridge, The Gaslight District will be home to residential spaces, commercial spaces, retail, art, dining, event hall, community and culture.

“The fences are going up and the heavy equipment is moving in. It is incredibly exciting to get underway with the construction of The Gaslight District,” shared HIP Development President Scott Higgins. “We’re looking forward to this new and exciting addition to the Cambridge community.”

HIP is also announcing that a new Phase 2 condominium tower will launched. Phase 2 tower units will become available for purchase later in September. The first tower sold out within 48 hours two years ago.

The future home of Foundry Brewing, Energy + head office and HIP Developments head office, Gaslight District will be bringing well over 100 jobs to the community with 75,000 square feet of retail and office space with plans to house artist studios, restaurants, cafes and engaging public art. Most notable perhaps is Tapestry Hall, an event hall with capacity for 600 people seated and 1,000 people in total. Tapestry Hall will open later this year.

The focal point of the project – Gaslight Square – is a one acre European inspired cobblestone public square . Fusing the past and present, Gaslight Square, with its historically inspired and fun public art, will help define Cambridge’s identity and bring together the community for a bright future.

“We felt that it was important to preserve and restore historic details to pay homage to the Galt’s industrial past and we also intend to help the community celebrate the stories of The Grand River…our river,” said Higgins.
